How To Choose Good Research Paper Topics In Philosophy

In order to be able to choose good research paper themes in any given subject you first need to understand fully the subject that you are going to be writing about. Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, existence and reality. It is a subject that that allows you to take a journey of the imagination; to think and explore. Philosophers are intellectual time-travelers that know no boundaries. So, in order to come up with a good topic, you need to start looking at it from a place of liberation rather than oppression.

So, if you have been tasked with writing an assignment the trick is in understanding how to choose a good topic, and over the course of this post I am going to show you exactly how to do that:

Write with conviction

It is no good choosing a lame topic, or one that just doesn’t inspire you. No one is suggesting for one second that you have to change the world, but you do need to be at least able to shape your own world. The best way to do this is to come up with a topic that you believe in and invokes a sense of if not fire, then at least “something” within you.

Do some initial research

Don’t fall into the trap that so many students fall into, and that is they come up with their topic without thinking through the alternatives. You wouldn’t necessarily pluck a dress off the shelf and just buy it without trying it on, would you? Well, the same goes for your subjects. The best thing that you can do, since we are using this analogy, is to shop around. Try out a few ideas for size and then see which one fits best. Time spent doing this will be time well spent.

Don’t be a sheep

What works for someone else may be a disaster for you. Ignore what everyone else is doing and follow your heart. You are unlikely to take the same life path as your fellow students, so why on earth would you choose a similar topic?

Don’t be swayed

If you have all but settled on a topic, do not let well-meaning friends or relatives put you off. It can sometimes seem as if everyone has an opinion on everything. Well, not this time. If you know in your gut that the topic you have chosen is right for you, then go with it.
